Resin 3D Printing for Beginners: Everything You Need to Know
June 14, 2026
Resin printing unlocks ultra-fine detail. Here's how to get started safely, including washing, curing, and material selection.
## Getting Started with Resin Printing
Resin printers (MSLA/SLA) produce stunning detail at 25–50 micron layer heights, ideal for miniatures, jewelry, dental models, and collectibles.
## Safety First
Resin is toxic before curing. Always:
- Wear nitrile gloves
- Print in a ventilated area or use an activated carbon filter
- Store resin away from sunlight
- Dispose of uncured resin at a chemical waste facility — never down the drain
## Equipment Needed
Beyond the printer you'll need:
- **Wash & Cure station**: Anycubic Wash & Cure or Elegoo Mercury Plus (~$40–70)
- **Nitrile gloves**: bulk box recommended
- **IPA (isopropyl alcohol) 95%+**: for washing
- **UV lamp or sunlight**: for final cure
- **Funnel with filter**: to return unused resin to bottle
## Choosing Resin
| Type | Best For |
|------|---------|
| Standard resin | Miniatures, detail parts |
| ABS-like resin | Functional prototypes, tougher |
| 8K water-wash | Beginners, easier cleanup |
| Flexible resin | Seals, gaskets |
| Castable resin | Jewelry investment casting |
## Post-Processing
1. Print finishes → remove build plate carefully
2. Wash in IPA for 3–5 minutes (agitated)
3. Air dry 10 minutes
4. Cure under UV for 2–5 minutes per side
5. Remove supports carefully with flush cutters
## Best Entry-Level Resin Printers
- Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra — 12K resolution, large build volume
- Anycubic Photon Mono M5S — beginner-friendly
- Bambu Lab (no resin) — FDM only
